Copper Firewood Holder

A socalled 'ferrat' from the the Auvergne, France. Old copper container reinforced with a frame and adorned with copper bands with which the women went to fetch water. They wore it either on the head, protecting themselves with a small rag crown or on the hip with a cushion, hence the usefulness of the handles on either side of the object.
